Atrocities on dalits: probe to be expedited

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: The State government on Wednesday said that a special drive would be launched to expedite the probe into the cases pertaining to atrocities on dalits.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Scheduled Castes Welfare Advisory Board.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The meeting also decided that steps would be taken to fill the vacant posts of Deputy Superintendents of Police as vacancy in these posts was delaying investigation into the cases relating to atrocities on dalits.

As per the law, the cases relating of atrocities on dalits are jointly conducted by the DSP and the Magistrate of the area concerned.

The Home Department officials who attended the meeting informed that steps were being taken to increase the number of DSPs in the State.
