Nod for move to get HUDCO loan

Staff Reporter

Government to provide Rs. 4 cr. to private firm for preliminary work done

Plans to extend the road overbridge till Uppalam in the second phase

PUDUCHERRY: The Union government has cleared the territorial administration’s proposal to obtain Rs. 27-crore loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) for constructing a road overbridge over the Uppar drain, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy told the Assembly on Wednesday.

Replying to a question from R. Siva (DMK), the Chief Minster said the road overbridge would connect Kamarajar Salai at the Balaji Theatre Junction and Marimalai Adigal Salai at the Newtone Theatre junction. The government has to provide Rs. 4 crore to the private firm for the preliminary work carried out for constructing the road overbridge, he said, adding that the amount would be paid once the loan was released.

To a query from A. Anbalagan (AIADMK), Mr. Rangasamy said the government had plans to extend the road overbridge till Uppalam in the second phase. The delay in completing the project was caused by paucity of funds, he said adding that with the Centre giving its approval for the loan, the project would be expedited.

Replying to A.M.H. Nazeem (DMK), Mr. Rangasamy said the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Wing had so far received 70 anonymous complaints seeking action against government officials.

Mr. Nazeem said that there had been a spate of anonymous complaints alleging corruption charges against senior government officials. There was a “group” behind such anonymous complaints wanting to tarnish the reputation of some honest officers, Mr. Nazeem said.

Mr. Rangasamy said, “we will direct the State Vigilance Officer to look into the issue,” he said.
