NAMAKKAL: District Revenue Officer G. Govindaraj directed all the village panchayat administrations to ensure quality in the execution of development works.

Participating in the special gram sabha meeting held in Muthalaipatti village near here on Wednesday, he asked the officials and elected representatives to closely monitor the implementation of the works to ensure quality. The panchayat administrations should avoid unnecessary delays in the execution and complete the works within the specified time, he stressed.

Mr. Govindaraj appealed to the people and members of self-help groups to participate in the gram sabhas without fail. This would help them know about various schemes being executed in their villages, he pointed out.

The special meeting of the gram sabha was held in all the 331 village panchayats in the district. The development works to be carried out under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and various other development schemes in the current fiscal were discussed in the meetings.

Works to be executed under the Indira Awaz Yojana and the list of beneficiaries selected under different schemes to provide welfare assistance were placed before the sabha members for approval.

The panchayat administrations, which were selected under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam in the current financial year, had submitted the list of works to be carried out under the scheme to the sabha.

The government had allotted Rs. 20 lakh each to the village panchayats to take up development works under the Anna thittam, officials said. Senior officials were present in the meeting.
