Bank poll: IUML, Congress strike deal

MALAPPURAM: The IUML and the Congress reached an agreement here on Wednesday over the sharing of seats in the District Cooperative Bank governing body.

The IUML will contest 11 seats and the Congress will field candidates in three seats.

However, two UDF candidates have already been elected unopposed following the rejection of the nominations filed by their opponents. A. Ahamed Kutty of the IUML was elected from Tirurangadi and P.T. Ajaymohan of the Congress from Ponnani.

As many as 39 candidates are in the fray for 14 seats in the governing body of the bank.

The election will be held on May 3.
