Chief Minister participates in Praja Patham programme Lays stone for sports hostel, residential school
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy unveiling the plaque for the regional sports school during the Praja Patham programme in Sabbavaram mandal on Wednesday. Ministers K. Ramakrishna and R. Damodar Reddy, Sabbavaram MLA Gandi Babji and others are also seen. — MALLUNAIDUPALEM (Visakhapatnam district): “With the elections one year away, actors are appearing on the scene to fool people. They are going to the poor people’s huts and teaching them how to comb their children’s hair. But, you should teach them a good lesson,” said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy while participating in the Praja Patham programme in this village, about 40 km from Visakhapatnam, on Wednesday. He highlighted his government’s performance, which he said would create “Indiramma rajyam” and strongly criticised the Telugu Desam and its leader N. Chandrababu Naidu. “They have not done anything during their 10-year rule. But we have achieved a lot during the last four years. They were always thinking of Bill Gates and Bill Clinton and about a membership in the Dream Cabinet. But ours is a simple and sincere government with people’s welfare and wellbeing as the only agenda,” Dr. Reddy said. The Chief Minister, who spoke for about half-an-hour, asked the people to demand officials and people’s representatives to solve their problems during Praja Patham programme. People were the strongest instruments in a democracy. With the vote, a weapon in their hands, they would pull down the government that failed to deliver and support the one that fulfilled their aspirations. Hence, the TDP, with N.T. Rama Rao as its leader, promised to provide rice at Rs.2-a-kg, implement total prohibition and free power to farmers with one HP motor. NTR made efforts but Mr. Naidu, who pulled him down, diluted all these promises, Dr. Reddy charged. “Mr. Naidu is now ridiculing free power, subsidised rice and other schemes of the Congress. But the Congress Government will continue with the schemes as long as it is in power,” Dr. Reddy assured. However, he tried to play down the spiralling prices, saying that the prices had gone up, and it was to provide relief to the people, the government had introduced the Rs.2-a-kg rice scheme. Dr. Reddy laid the foundation stones for the Rs.21-crore regional sports hostel to be set up at Askapalli in Sabbavaram mandal and the Rs.11.68-crore rural residential public school to come up under public-private participation at Erukupalli village. Ministers Konathala Ramakrishna and R. Damodar Reddy, Parawada MLA Gandi Babji, sarpanch Chitikareddy Demudu and others participated.
