Gram sabha meetings to be held on May Day

Krishnagiri: The gram sabha meetings at all the 337 village panchayats in the district will be held on May 1 in connection with May Day. Observers have been deputed to all panchayats to monitor and aid in the smooth functioning of the gram sabha meetings, Collector Santhosh Babu has said.

Besides presenting the budget for approval, the meetings should discuss Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, Namakku Naame Thittam, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005, its objectives, beneficiaries under this Act, responsibilities of village panchayats in this regard, works to be carried out under the NREG Act, allocation of works, salary to be given for the labourers etc.

Officials from various departments would participate in the meeting to explain the schemes implemented and the welfare programmes to be executed in their village panchayat. The meetings would also discuss on abolition of child labour, list out the development programmes approved by the panchayats, selection of beneficiaries under the Sampoorna Grama Employment Scheme, creating awareness among villagers on HIV and AIDS, ensuring 100 per cent enrolment and retention of children in schools, clearing of plastic waste from water bodies, disaster management, and protection of child rights and selection of beneficiaries under the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing Development Corporation (TAHDCO) scheme, the Collector said. The Collector appealed to the public and women self-help group members to take part in the meetings.
