Bangalore: The State unit of the Janata Dal (United) has fielded 30 candidates, including three former Ministers, a former MP and an MLA, a former Mayor of Bangalore, a retired Major of the Indian Army, in the first phase of the elections. Interestingly of the 30 constituencies it has selected nine are reserved constituencies. Prominent candidatesThe prominent candidates in the fray include president of the State unit of the party B. Somashekhar, the former Ministers Veeranna and Shankaranand Naik, the former MP V. Venkatesh, the former Mayor B.V. Putte Gowda, Major (Retd) Ramesh B.N. and the former MLA J.C. Madhuswamy, who will contest from Malavalli (reserved) Madhugiri, Nelamangala (reserved), KGF, Vijayanagar, Arsikere and Chikkanayakanahalli respectively. The other candidates are: Chandrashekhar (C.V. Raman Nagar), Manohar (Pulakeshinagar) Y.K. Somashekhar (Mulabal), K.C. Shivananda (Nanjangud), Srinivas (Devanahalli) and Topaiah (Anekal — all reserved constituencies); Mohammad Nazeer Ahmad (Shanthinagar-Bangalore), Sundarappa (Chikpet), Mallikarjuna Bommai (Hebbal), Subbappa (Varuna), H. Jayachandra (Kolar), Narayana Naik (Ramanagara), Mahesh Kumar (Kanakapura ), Beeraiah (Chennapattana), Lakshmana (Hanur), Akram Pasha (Narasimharaja), Gajendra Kumar (Tumkur City), L. Nagaraj (Sira), Kidiganappa (Gubbi), Mohan Kumar (Sarvagnanagar), Shashikumar (Piriyapattana), L.S. Kumaraswamy (Govindarajangar).
