Raids: search completed

BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police have completed the search of offices and residences of eight officials, including five City police officials, who are accused of having assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. They are now collecting documents related to some of the immovable properties of the officials.

On Tuesday, Lokayukta police simultaneously raided the offices and residences of Mahesh Shankar Hanumashetty, Motor Vehicle Inspector, Belgaum; H. Anjaneya, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Davangere; Assistant Commissioners of Police Pratap Singh and H.K. Venkataswamy; Kumar S. Karning, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bangalore Rural; Lakshman Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security), Vidhana Soudha; Lashkari Naik, Executive Engineer, Koppal Zilla Panchayat; and Shivanna, Municipal Commissioner, Ramanagara.

Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta) Rupak Kumar Dutta said lockers of some of the officers were opened on Wednesday. They found cash and gold ornaments in the lockers of Mr. Karning and Mr. Naik. Regarding Mr. Lakshman Singh’s contention disputing possession of a house and a 3.1 acre of land in Rajareshwari Nagar, Mr. Dutta said evidence was being gathered to show that the property was indeed purchased by him in the name of another person. Lokayukta sleuths have also scrutinised the income of persons who have gifted houses or land to the accused.
