Unapproved layouts to get drainage facility

Staff Reporter

TIRUPUR: All the 175 unapproved layouts in the city yearning for basic amenities will soon get storm water drains at a cost of Rs. 40 crore.

Tirupur Corporation has begun preparing estimates to construct storm water drains across the city as the unapproved layouts have been demanding for it to prevent stagnation of sewerage and rain water during monsoon. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin made an announcement in this regard in the Assembly a couple of days ago.

Corporation Commissioner M. Ashokan said that the local body would soon install 1,000 streetlights in the unapproved layouts. Water supply pipes had been extended to these areas a couple of months ago using the funds paid by the residents towards regularisation fee.

On Mr. Stalin’s assurance to consider setting up a new bus stand on the southern part of the city, he said the local body would begin work to select a suitable site for it.
