Minister takes a dig at INLD leader

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav on Wednesday expressed surprise at “ignorance” displayed by Indian National Lok Dal organising secretary Ram Pal Majra when he reportedly said that an inquiry committee had been constituted by the State Government on the Yamuna water accord.

Mr. Yadav stated that in fact the House committee was constituted by Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Raghubir Singh Kadian after a discussion on the Yamuna water accord in the Assembly.

He said this committee was constituted to look into various aspects concerning the Yamuna water accord which was signed in 1994 by the then Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal for sharing Yamuna waters and construction of the Renuka and Kisau dams.

Haryana Pradesh Congress Party president Phool Chand Mullana asserted that Mr. Majra, who was the Chief Parliamentary Secretary during the INLD regime, was expected to know the difference between a House committee and an enquiry committee of the Government.

‘Violation of code’

Meanwhile, the INLD has alleged that the State Government was “violating the Model Code of Conduct” enforced in view of the three by-elections in the State next month.

Addressing a press conference, INLD secretary-general and MP Ajay Singh Chautala asserted that his party would sweep the polls as the people were “upset” over “spiralling prices and widespread corruption”.

He charged that the announcement on opening a new engineering college in Gohana was also a gross violation of the model code of conduct.
