Advocate apologises to Magistrate
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: An advocate tendered an unconditional apology for his act against the V Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, on October 31 last year.
The apology from Elangovan came at a joint council meeting of the Tamil Nadu Judicial Officers Association (TNJOA) and the Bar associations to resolve the issue. The meeting, mooted by the Supreme Court and on the directions of the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, was held on Monday.
Mr. Elangovan’s act against the Magistrate was found to be unethical and causing disgrace to the legal profession. It was unanimously condemned.
The advocate tendered his apology to the Magistrate, Mr. Muruganandam, in person. He took an oath that in future he would not indulge in any such activity.
This was unanimously accepted with a due warning, according to a TNJOA press release.
It was also unanimously decided that no Bar association should support such misbehaviour by any member in future, the release stated.
