Fact finding team visits combing operation areas

On upper and lower Kodaikanal hill

KODAIKANAL: A 14-member fact finding team comprising scientists, lawyers and members of civil liberties organisations from different states inspected combing operation areas on the upper and lower Kodaikanal hill and interacted with local people at several villages here on Wednesday in connection with death of Naveen alias Prasad, a well trained Maoists, in an encounter between Maoists and the Special Task Force.

The team divided themselves into two groups and inspected various places. While the first team visited the encounter spot near Vadakaunji village and combing operation areas, another team met people in Thamaraikulam near Perumalmalai, Manjalparappu, Pannaikadu, Perumalmalai and other hamlets.

Members of the team were Professor Kochadai of People Union of Civil Liberties, Gopal, Scientist and executive, Centre for Protection of Democratic Rights, Kranti Chaithanya, Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee, Pouran and Shaw Nivas, Advocates, People Union of Civil Liberties, Kerala, Sheela and Jayakumari of People Democratic Platform, Karnataka, and others representing various human rights organisations.

Naveen was shot in a joint operation by the ‘Q’ Branch, local police and Special Task Force in the forests near Vada Kaunji village, 40 km away from here on Saturday. He was a trained Maoist and skilled in operating all weapons and use of hand grenades.
