BURNING ISSUE: CPI(M) members staging a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office in Thanjavur on Wednesday. —
THANJAVUR: Members of Communist Party of India–Marxist (CPI-M) and Communist Party of India (CPI) staged demonstration at 22 centres in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts protesting against rise in prices of essential commodities on Wednesday.
At Thanjavur, members led by G. Neelamegam, district secretary of CPI-M, and R.Thirugnanam, district secretary of CPI, staged the demonstration before the Head Post Office. Demonstrations were held at ten other other places in the district.
At Tiruvarur, the agitation was led by I. Nagarajan, Tiruvarur district secretary of CPI-M, and P. S. Masilamani, district farmers wing secretary of CPI. Similar demonstrations were held at 10 other places.
The members demanded implementation of public distribution system to all, provision of 15 essential commodities like dhal, oil through PDS and bringing down the price of petroleum products by reducing import duty.
Pudukottai
District secretary of Farmers wing of the CPI (M) Muthukumaran led the agitation in front of the Municipal Office.
In Ponnamaravathy, the protest was led by CPI’s A.L. Raju.
