A.P. likely to ban cement exports

M. Malleswara Rao

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh government is contemplating promulgation of an ordinance to restrict movement of cement produced by 33 major and medium factories in the State with a view to making it available to consumers at a reasonable price.

This restriction will virtually amount to a ban on export of cement to other States as the government is seriously concerned that nearly 18 million tonnes out of the 32 million tonnes produced annually in the State is going to other States, causing an artificial scarcity in the State. A final decision on the ordinance will be taken on Thursday by the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy after discussions with the Ministers.
