Jayalalithaa favours pay panel for doctors

Urges Government to appoint special pay commission

Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Tuesday urged the State government to appoint a special pay commission to remove the anomalies in the salary structure of doctors working in medical colleges and hospitals.

In a statement here, she said the recommendations of this special pay commission should be implemented before implementing those of the Sixth Pay Commission.

“In the neighbouring States of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka doctors working in health and medical departments are getting better salary and promotions compared to those in Tamil Nadu. In Andhra Pradesh doctors working in medical colleges are being paid as per the UGC scale. The Puducherry government pays its doctors on a par with doctors working in Central government services. Only in Tamil Nadu doctors get poor salary,” she alleged.
