Provoking thought: Noted writer Baragur Ramachandrappa (centre), flanked by publisher Ku. Go. and Gandhian H.R. Dase Gowda, releasing books on the occasion of World Book Day in Bangalore on Wednesday. BANGALORE: Noted writer Baragur Ramachandrappa has said that book culture should be expanded with a focus on rural areas. It should be treated as a tool of social, political and cultural developments and not as a mere saleable commodity. Prof. Ramachandrappa was speaking on the occasion of World Book Day organised by the Karnataka Prakashakara Sangha here on Wednesday. There were days when Kannada books meant novels and other forms of literature. Of late, books on various topics and issues had been gaining importance. Publishers should understand that books are sensitive social products, he added. Noted Gandhian and publisher H.R. Dase Gowda and publisher Ku. Go. were felicitated on the occasion.
