Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in the Capital has awarded a compensation of Rs.22.57 lakh to a mechanical engineer who was rendered disabled in an accident in 2004. Tribunal Judge Swarn Kanta awarded the compensation to 23-year-old Siddharth Jain, who was hit by a speeding truck at Ambedkar Chowk in South Delhi while on the way to his office in Gurgaon on November 24, 2004. The injury left him 40 per cent disabled and also cost him his job.
The Judge also directed the insurance agency, Royal Sundaram Alliance, to pay interest at 7.5 per cent per year since the date of filing of compensation petition in 2005.
Siddharth had filed the petition on May 26, 2005, seeking a compensation of Rs.60 lakh for disability, mental trauma and agony.
