Air traffic posts growth at new airport
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), on completion of a month of its operations, has registered a growth of 16 per cent in aircraft movements and 13 per cent in passenger traffic. The growth is compared to the period between March 23 and April 22 last year at Begumpet airport.
Gulf Air will commence its operations from July 1 with an A320 aircraft, while British Airways will run an aircraft from here from October, said a release from GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, the airport operator, on Wednesday.
Number of flights up
The number of aircraft went up to 7,789 (international – 865; and domestic – 6,924) in the last one month compared to the corresponding period last year. The number of passengers grew to 6,26,000 (international – 94,000; and domestic - 5.32 lakh).
The fuel uplift, which was about 550 KL a day at the Begumpet airport, doubled to 1100 KL a day in the RGIA. This is due to reduction in tax on ATF from 33 per cent to 4 per cent and also due to the Open Access Model existing at the airport. RGIA Chief Commercial Officer A. Viswanath said that the company would continue to strive to deliver the best of services to the passengers and live up to the expectations of all in the days to come.
