HYDERABAD: With a view to making the students industry-ready, the Institute of Electronic Governance (IEG), a State government initiative, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oracle India Pvt Ltd and Oracle Academy on Wednesday. This would entail introduction of Oracle Academy’s business and technology curriculum to students of engineering and MCA colleges in the State. As part of the MoU, Oracle Academy would impart intensive training to faculty members in colleges and extend the programme to over 50,000 students in 342 colleges over a two-year period, through Jawahar Knowledge Centres (JKCs) run by the IEG in the State. Krishan Dhawan, Managing Director of Oracle India, told a press conference here that the faculty members trained at Oracle Academy would provide the business and technology skills for their students. CEO of the IEG Amarnath Reddy said that the JKCs, which were addressing the skills gap, would enable the students to take up live projects available with Oracle Academy to gain hands-on experience. Mr. Reddy said that the IEG increased the number of JKCs from 67 in the previous academic year to 386 this year in engineering and MCA colleges. While 11 degree colleges were covered last year, the number was raised to 257 this year. The idea was to extending the JKCs to all colleges in the State. Considering the response, nine States urged the IEG to partner with them in extending the programme to colleges in their States also.
