Yunus enters semifinals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mohammed Yunus (TN) stormed into the boys’ under-16 semifinals after scoring a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mohammed Hamraz (Kerala) in the quarterfinals of the AITA National Talent Series tennis tournament at the TTC Courts here on Thursday.

Adithya Bhat (Kerala), Monish Rajur (TN) and R. Avinash completed the semifinal line-up in the u-16 section.

In the u-14 category, N. Ashwin, Venktiesh Krishna and Mohammed Yunus (all TN) entered the semifinals.

T.M. Priya Darsini (TN), Sneha Susan Thomas (Kerala) and Shubh Gulati (Delhi) entered the semifinals in the girls’ u-16 category.

The semifinalists were spotted in u-14 section with Sneha, S.G. Abinaya (TN), A.V. Rithika (Kerala) and Subah Gulati (Delhi) making grade.

The results: Quarterfinals: Boys: U-16: Mohammed Yunus (TN) bt Mohammed Hamraz (Ker) 6-4, 6-0; Adithya Bhat (Ker) bt Anand George (Ker) 6-1, 6-2; Monish Rajur (TN) bt S. Rakesh (TN) 6-1, 6-2; R. Avinash (TN) bt J.S. Arun Raj (Ker) 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. U-14: N. Ashwin (TN) bt Mathew T. Lathra (Ker) 6-0, 4-6, 6-0; Venkitesh Krishna (TN) bt B. Anirudha (TN) 6-1, 6-2; Mohammed Yunus (TN) bt Sachin Vinoth (Ker) 6-0, 6-0.

Girls: U-16: T.M. Priya Darsini (TN) bt Anjali Jaindhan (Ker) 6-2, 6-3; Sneha Susan Thomas (Ker) bt Vidya Purani (TN) 6-0, 6-0; Shubh Gulati (Del) bt N. Yamini (AP) 6-3, 6-2.

U-14: S.S. Abhinya (TN) bt J. Jeriya (Ker) 6-3, 6-0; Sneha Susan Thomas (Ker) bt Anjali Jaindhan (Ker) 6-0, 6-0; A.V. Rithika (Ker) bt T.M. Priya Darsini (TN) 6-1, 6-4; Shubh Gulati (Del) bt Janet Michael (Ker) 6-2, 6-0.
