Weather turns mercurial

Bangalore: The scorching summer temperature, which seemed to rise unstoppably all month, dipped dramatically by 6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday in a span of just a couple of hours between afternoon and evening. This, thanks to a gathering thunderstorm, which may not have brought in much rain to the city, but triggered strong winds that reached a speed of 68 kmph on Tuesday night, slowing to 28 kmph Wednesday evening.

From a maximum of 34.6 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, the mercury dipped to 28 degrees on Wednesday. The wind direction has also changed from the northeast to the northwest because of the movement of the thunderstorm, said A. Muthuchami, Director of the Meteorological Centre.

Temperatures have been slowly dipping over the week, from nearly 37 degrees on Monday to 35.5 degrees on Tuesday, and getting cooler by a degree on Wednesday.

“Over the next two days we can expect light rain in the evenings and night. This may not be widespread, but localised within the city.”
