Thiruvananthapuram: The 78 gram panchayats and municipalities in the district will take up intensive pre-monsoon cleaning activities from May 5 to May 15. A meeting held at the Collectorate recently decided to convene a meeting of ward-level sanitation committees by April 30 to chalk out a campaign programme. Vector controlThe meeting resolved to carry out a vector control campaign at the household level focussing on elimination of mosquito breeding grounds. April 27 and May 4, 11 and 18 will be observed as dry days. On May 9, a drive will be carried out to clean up bus stands, markets and public places. Elimination of vector breeding grounds will be taken up on May 10 and 11. Hospitals and educational institutions will be cleaned on May 12.and government institutions, on May 13. The campaign will be extended to surface drainage channels, private institutions and commercial establishments on the subsequent days. Rallies plannedCampaign rallies will be taken out in all panchayats. District panchayat president Anavoor Nagappan presided over the meeting. District Collector Sanjay Kaul, district coordinator of the Total Sanitation Mission K. Chandrasekharan Nair, District Medical Officer G. Prema, municipal chairmen and panchayat presidents participated.
