Remand prisoner escapes

RAJAPALAYAM: A remand prisoner, V. Karuppasamy (28), escaped from the police custody while he was being taken to a court here on Wednesday.

Police said that three police personnel, two head constables and a woman constable, had taken four prisoners from Madurai Central Prison to the Judicial Magistrate court here. Karuppasamy, who was arrested in a drug peddling case, is said to have pulled out his hand through the handcuff and escaped from a hotel after lunch. The police have launched a manhunt for him.
