IGIAT building inaugurated

YSR goes round Apparel Training Division, hands over offer letters

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated a new building of the Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT) here on Wednesday.

A joint project of the Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Germany and Gayatri Vidya Parishad, the facility was set up with the objective of enhancing the employability of students passing out of engineering colleges, polytechnics and ITI’s. The institute had recently introduced Societal Transformation Courses to enhance the skills of SSC passed, Intermediate and graduate students in job-oriented courses.

Gainful employment

The institute trained 3,600 candidates since its inception in 2006. Of the 1,307 eligible job seekers, IGIAT provided gainful employment to 1,048 students. In-service personnel employed with various industries were being trained for upgradation of their skills.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by Ministers Konathala Ramakrishna, Kanna Lakshminarayana and Botcha Satyanarayana, arrived on the institute premises at Kancharapalem at 1 p.m. IGIAT chairman G. Kumaraswamy Reddy, director V. Ramesh, Gayatri Vidya Parishad secretary P. Somaraju, president B. Swamy, former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao and Chairman of the Centre for Policy Studies A. Prasanna Kumar were among those who received Dr. Reddy.

He unveiled a plaque in the presence of Roland Friedrich Herrmann, Consul-General, Federal Republic of Germany, marking the inauguration of the new building.

He went round the Apparel Training Division and handed over job offer letters to a few candidates who underwent training there. He visited the Automation Lab and saw the projects of the B.Tech students and also visited the Mini Tool Room.

MLAs S. Ranga Raju and Tippala Gurumurthy Reddy, senior Congress leader Y. Mariadas, District Collector Sanjay Kumar, Police Commissioner N. Sambasiva Rao, Deputy Commissioner or Police (Traffic) P. Viswa Prasad, Additional DCP P. Rama Rao and Congress BC Cell State vice-president Beesetti Nookeswara Rao were among those who attended.
