Warne praises his young, talented team

V.V. Subrahmanyam

Delighted to have Smith in the side

Deccan Chargers would be tough to beat

HYDERABAD: Shane Warne, captain and coach of Rajasthan Royals, said that Deccan Chargers would hate to lose another match on home ground.

“That could be dangerous. They have many dangerous players with vast experience. They are a very tough team to beat. But our confidence is on a high after the win over Mumbai Indians the other night,” said the Australian spin legend.

“We are delighted to have South African captain Graeme Smith in the side. He has been a destroyer of many international attacks in recent years and hope he will continue tomorrow (Thursday) also,” Warne said during an interaction on Wednesday ahead of the IPL clash here.

“We have a wonderful side with plenty of young, exciting talent. And we hope to click as a team,” he asserted. “The pitch looks good right now but we can’t say how it will behave.”

Consistency

He did not want to read too much into his impressive spell against the Mumbai outfit. “It was nice to be part of that game. But you can be in for a spell of none for 50. That is all part of the game. I only wish for consistency as the event progresses,” he said.

He picked Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliant knock against Mumbai Indians as proof of abundance of domestic talent in the side.

“That was really heartening for us as we can also look to these players to change the game,” he said. The fact that there is not too much of expectations on us, we don’t feel the pressure though we continue to keep improving with each game,” Warne pointed out.

On his dual role, the Australian said that he was more of a captain than a coach as he was backed up by two very good assistants. “All that I am doing is passing on my experience and knowledge to the youngsters in the game,” he said.

No need to panic

Robin Singh, coach of Deccan Chargers, stressed that there was no need to panic after the two straight losses.

“We have a long way to go. Definitely, we are looking at the possibility of looking for the best combinations for the games ahead.

“But again, it is question of batting much better to back up the bowlers. One good knock by a batsman or two good overs can take the match away from any side,” he said.

Robin said that he was not worried about captain V.V.S. Laxman’s form.

“Well, you cannot tell an international to change his game. We can only point out mistakes, if any.

“For instance, you cannot tell Adam Gilchrist how to bat. It is only a question of one good game and there will be a different story altogether for you all,” he said. “Make sure you bat well. That is the key for success,” Robin added.
