Getting ready: Finishing touches being given to the modern maternity block constructed by Mothercare, the UK-based brand, at the T.S.K. Municipal Maternity Centre in Tirupur. — TIRUPUR: The UK-based brand for expectant mothers and children, Mothercare, one of the important brands that sources knit garments here, will dedicate the additional maternity block at T.S.K. Municipal Maternity Centre on Avanashi Road on Friday. The leading brand has taken up the construction in April last year with the help of its suppliers here and franchise partner Shoppers’ Stop. The new block has come up in a 5,000 square feet built-up area and comprises a waiting hall, air-conditioned operation theatre, four rooms for patients, a duty doctor rooms, nursing room, store room and toilets. Besides this, the company will provide equipment, furniture and other infrastructure at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh. CommitmentIan Peacock, Chairman of Mothercare, will inaugurate the block in the presence of Tirupur Mayor K. Selvaraj and leading exporters. “Contributing to construction of a maternity block is close to our brand and heart. The export city of Tirupur is important to us and it shows our commitment to the society,” remarked Martin Antony, Managing Director of Mothercare India Sourcing Limited. The company was sourcing cotton knitted garments from Tirupur to the tune of nearly Rs. 125 crore. Joining hands with the big export houses who supplies garment to them, the Mothercare has formed a trust namely Mothercare Valuable Partnership Trust. The trust will undertake maintenance of the block. Leading exporters N. Chandran (Eastman Exports), R. Rajkumar (Best Corporation), D. Sigamani (KPR Group) and R. Govindaraju (Prime Tex) are among those who actively took part in the trust activities. Mr. Antony said that they would spend Rs. 70 lakh for the project. After the inauguration of the block, Mothercare would renovate the existing block, where the maternity centre functions now. Landscaping will be done in front of the new blocks later, he added.
