Sansar Chand discharged
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Notorious poacher and alleged dealer in illegal trade of animal body parts, Sansar Chand, has been discharged by a court here in a case of possessing skins of leopards, tigers and other animals. Two of his co-accused were also discharged.
Discharging the accused, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alok Kumar Agarwal said it appeared that there were no charges by the Wildlife Department, which happened to be the prosecution in the case. The court added that it was of the opinion that the accused should be discharged in this case but the trial in other cases would continue. The court also acquitted the other two accused – O.P. Hawaldar and Rajesh Kumar – after rejecting their statements as untrustworthy. On October 27, 1992, the Wildlife Department had arrested Sansar and the other two accused from South Delhi for allegedly being in possession of 28 leopard skins, two tiger skins, five crocodile skinsand other animal skins.
