B.S. Yeddyurappa SHIKARIPUR: The former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader B.S. Yeddyurappa said here on Thursday that his party would fight the Assembly elections on the plank of development and his performance as the finance Minister in the previous coalition government. Talking to pressperson after filing his nomination from Shikaripur constituency he said that the two budgets presented by him were hailed as “trendsetters”, aiming at bridging the gap between the haves and the have-nots. “These budgets will certain stand our party in a good stead in the elections,” he said. Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the BJP, which was restricted to certain pockets in the State some years ago, had spread its influence all over the State. The party was making its presence felt in districts such as Raichur, Mandya, Mysore, Kolar and Chamarajnagar and prominent leaders from other parties were joining the BJP in appreciation of its programmes and policies, he said. Mr. Yeddyurappa said he was confident that the voters would give full support to his party as they were fed up with the political uncertainty brought about by coalition governments. He said that the poll outcome would put an end to the political instability in the State by ensuring an absolute majority to the BJP. When asked for his reaction on the reported remark of the Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda that the State would be in for another coalition government, Mr. Yeddyurappa said, “What he (Mr. Gowda) has said amounts to an insult to the voters’ right. Let there be no doubt about the BJP getting an absolute majority. Surveys conducted by the BJP in this connection have pointed to a favourable position to the party.” He ridiculed the reports about his “plans” to contest from another constituency as the former Chief Minister and Shimoga MP S. Bangarappa had decided to contest from Shikaripur segment as the Samajawadi Party candidate.“I have never given any thought to such a proposal,” he said. “I respect Mr. Bangarappa as a veteran politician and a leader of the backward classes. He is free to contest from any constituency he likes,” he said.
