104 medical service for rural poor

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inspected the HMRI mobile medical unit at Secretariat on Thursday which will visit rural areas on a fixed date to provide health care to pregnant women, children and treat those suffering from chronic illnesses.

With 475 such units (HMRI 104 fixed date vehicle) proposed to be pressed into service, Dr. Reddy suggested some improvements and asked the Health Department to go ahead with the scheme since it was meant to provide immediate health care to people, particularly in rural areas. The 104 HMRI will provide toll free medical advice and information.

The Chief Minister, who held a review meeting on 104 HMRI services and 108 services with the Satyam Foundation and State Health Department officials, was informed that 104 service was receiving 36,000 calls a day and their number was expected to increase to 50,000. Ultimately, it was expected to serve four crore people.

Under the scheme, ‘village hospital patients’ will be connected to centrally located pool of doctors. The mobile unit will have hospital information, including patient records, critical services equipment and physicians. Principal secretary (Health), P.K. Agarwal, Chairman, Satyam Computers, Ramalinga Raju, CEO HMRI Balaji Utla, CEO EMRI, Venkat Chengavalli attend the meeting.
