Bid to take out procession foiled

DAVANGERE: Congress workers who tried to take out a procession here on Thursday were dispersed by the police. The party workers were protesting against the denial of ticket to S.S. Mallikarjun, former Minister and president of the District Congress Committee, and the nomination of K. Shivamurthy from Mayakonda. The police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang said permission had not been obtained from the district administration to take out the procession. — Staff Correspondent
