Special Correspondent

Victims include seven women, five kids

JAIPUR: In a major accident, 24 persons were killed and six injured when the pick-up van in which they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck near Jodhpur in Rajasthan shortly after midnight on Wednesday night.

The accident took place near Kanodia village on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer road.

The victims, who included seven women and five children, were returning home in Dechu village from Setrawa after a family function.

While 17 of them died on the spot, three succumbed to their injuries on way to the hospital and four in the hospital.

Police sources said the accident took place apparently because the driver of the overcrowded van lost control of the vehicle.

The injured have been admitted to Mathuradas Mathur Government Hospital in Jodhpur and police are investigating to find out the cause of the mishap.
