BHOPAL: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will be touring the tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh this weekend. The tour, part of Mr. Gandhi’s ongoing “Bharat Darshan”, is described by political observers here as significant as the State is heading for Assembly elections in a few months and the Congress is determined to re-build its traditional base among the tribals here. Over the years the ruling BJP has made deep inroads among the Scheduled Tribes that had been the main focus of the Congress historically. Mr. Gandhi will arrive at Dindori from Chhattisgarh on Saturday evening and after a night halt visit some forest villages. He will meet Baiga tribals the next morning, go round the historic fort of the Gond rulers and meet Nehru Yuva Kendra workers at Mandla in the afternoon. In Katni he will address a public rally. In the evening he will leave for Kesla near Hoshangabad, where he will be meeting some NGOs and local tribals. After a night halt at Kesla, he will leave for the tribal areas of western Madhya Pradesh on the last leg of the tour.
