Rajasthan Govt. signs MoU with the private company

To provide vocational education to 600 students annually

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with Mahindra and Mahindra group for establishment of a school here to promote technical education among youths belonging to weaker sections of society by developing among them skills for employment through vocational training.

The “Mahindra Pride School” – the latest initiative under the public-private partnership model for education – will provide vocational education to 600 students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes and Other Backward Classes every year. It will also impart training in spoken English, basic computer literacy and communication skills.

State Principal Technical Education Secretary G. S. Sandhu and Executive Director and president, Infrastructure Development Sector, M&M, Arun Nanda, signed the MoU in the presence of Education Minister Kalicharan Saraf at the State Secretariat here.

Mr. Saraf said this would herald a new era in the State by helping children from disadvantaged sections. He said about 22,000 engineers were being churned out as a result of the government’s policies promoting technical education.

Mr. Sandhu said as many as 19 engineering colleges, 35 polytechnic colleges, 108 industrial training institutes and 14 women’s ITIs had been established across the State under the public-private partnership model.

The school – the first of its kind in Jaipur – will function from 2,500 square metres of land provided by the State Government. It is expected to help the students, especially the rural youths, get better employment opportunities through its focus on skill development.
