THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Model Finishing School, being set up jointly by the State IT Department and the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) with support from Infosys, is all set to go on stream. The school, which aims at preparing educated and technically skilled youth from the State to secure suitable employment by giving them training in communication and presentation skills, has initiated steps for admitting students. The government decided to set up the school in order to ensure that youth from Kerala acquired sufficient skills to gain jobs in the booming IT sector. According to the projections of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the IT industry would experience a shortage of five million jobs by 2010 in the absence of graduates with employable skills. The school would begin with a 45-day training programme which would have various components such as communication and inter-personal skill development. The first batch would comprise engineering graduates who have secured an aggregate minimum of 60 per cent marks in their qualifying examination. Selection would be solely based on merit after a rigorous scrutiny of applications. Applications can be downloaded from the Web sites, www.modelfinishingschool.org, www.ihrd.ac.in and www.keralaitmission.org. Completed applications along with a DD for Rs.100 (Rs.50 for SC/ST) drawn in favour of ‘The Director, IHRD’ payable at ‘Thiruvananthapuram’ should be sent to The Special Officer, Model Finishing School, Science and Technology Museum Complex, PMG Junction, Vikas Bhavan PO, Thiruvananthapuram – 695 033 on or before May 5.
