This Day That Age
Eloquent tributes to the great part played by the late Sardar Patel in achieving the solidarity and unity of the country in general and the integration of the Princely States in particularly, were paid by President Rajendra Prasad, Vice-President Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Nehru and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Mr. Ananthasayanam Iyengar, on April 23 when a portrait of Sardar Patel was unveiled by the President in the Central Hall of Parliament. Dr. Rajendra Prasad said the gigantic task of Sardar Patel in achieving the unity and solidarity of the country from the Himalayas to the Cape Comorin was done with such amazing ease that they could not easily appreciate its immensity. He made a fervent appeal to the people to preserve the unity by sinking all differences of linguism, casteism and communalism. The portrait, a fine piece of work by Mr. N.S. Subbakrishna of Mysore, will adorn the Central Hall along with the portraits of other Indian leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dadabhai Navroji, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, Bala Gangadhara Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai and Pandit Motilal Nehru.
