dated April 25, 1958: Education conference

An Asian-African Education Conference opened in Colombo on April 22 under the auspices of the World confederation of Organisations of Teaching Profession to discuss the role of teachers of the region in the promotion of East-West understanding. About 50 delegates from 22 countries of the region and observers from the United Nations specialised agencies were present. The Ceylon Prime Minister, Mr. Solomon Bandaranaike, who inaugurated the discussions, said that the deliberations of the teachers would contribute towards human understanding.
