Sensitive booths to be named after the final list of candidates is announced.

Bangalore: The State police on Wednesday released a handbook of election laws, rules and regulations in view of the ensuing elections to the Legislative Assembly.

Releasing the book, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police K.R. Srinivasan said that according to the instructions given by the Election Commission, the book will be distributed to all officers across the State from the rank of a Sub-Inspector. They have been informed to follow the guidelines prescribed in the book.

“The book contains the information about the sections under the Representation People’s Act and the Indian Penal Code, which may be applied by the police department while probing violation of model code of conduct cases during the elections. The book also contains the details of all the 224 Assembly constituencies. The department will also distribute brochures in Kannada language to constables posted in different polling booths across the State,” he said.

The book has been compiled by the Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari, Road Safety and Traffic Management Authority Commissioner S. Parashiva Murthy, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Wireless) C.H. Prathap Reddy and Assistant Inspector-General of Police Uttappa.

When asked about the money that was seized in Mandya district, he said that the money has been handed over to the Income Tax department, which is probing the case. Regarding the identification of sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths across the State, he said that the identification process had begun. But, the department would declare the sensitive and hyper-sensitive only after the final list of candidates is announced.

Speaking about the police officers, whose houses were raided by the Lokayukta, he said that the department concerned will send a report to the Government.
