THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sneha Susan Thomas of Kerala entered the finals in girls under-16 and under-14 categories of the AITA National Talent series tennis tournament at the TTC courts on Thursday. Tamil Nadu’s Mohammed Yunus entered the finals in under-16 and under-14 categories in the boys section. Narrow win for Kochi RefineryBPCL Kochi Refinery squeaked to a one-run win over Cordiant Sports Foundation to enter the semifinals of the 27th Coromandel Cement all-Kerala cricket tournament at the BPCL Oval, Kochi, on Thursday. Chasing 187 for a win off 30 overs, Cordiant Foundation was dismissed for 185 in the last over. Cordiant TCC ‘A’ defeated Cycle Brand Kids CC, Thiruvananthapuram by 43 runs to enter the last four stage. The scores: BPCL Kochi Refinery 186 for seven in 30 overs bt Cordiant Sports Foundation 185 in 29.3 overs (C.M. Tejas 49, Vilas N. Kutty 49). Cordinat TCC ‘A’ 172 for nine in 30 overs (M.M. Two points for KollamPathanamthitta denied Kollam a win in the South Zone under-16 inter-district cricket match at the Medical College ground, Kottayam, on Thursday. Pathanamthitta, which started the second innings 307 runs in arrears, finished the day at 106 for eight off 59 overs with Suman top-scoring with a defiant unbeaten 24. Earlier, Jackson Cleetus completed his century (134) as Kollam, overnight 227 for three, was dismissed for 387. Kollam took two points for the first innings lead. The Kottayam-Thiruvananthapuram match ended in a draw. However, Kottayam took the all-important first innings lead after dismissing Thiruvananthapuram for 170 in its first innings. Though Thiruvananthapuram hit back by bundling out Kottayam for 97 runs in its second innings, the side was left with an unlikely target (126 runs off six overs) for victory. Thiruvananthapuram was 62 for one when play ended. The scores: Kottayam 198 and 97 in 45.1 overs (Shyam Shankar six for 39) drew with Thiruvananthapuram 170 in 43.4 overs (R.S. Ranjith 39, Manu Kurien six for 89) and 62 for one in six overs; Pathanamthitta 80 and 106 for eight in 59 overs (Rahul Krishna six for 42) drew with Kollam 387 in 90 overs (Jackson Cleetus 134, Rahul Krishna 43). Easy for GalaxyGalaxy CC, Palakkad defeated United CC, Kannur by eight wickets in the 25th Dr. M.S. Nair memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament at the KCA stadium, Perinthalmanna, on Thursday. In another match, Globestar Telecom, Aluva defeated Royal, Puthuparamba by 101 runs. The scores: United CC, Kannur 74 in 16.1 overs (Murugan four for 37) lost to Galaxy CC, Palakkad 76 for two in 16.4 overs (Karthikeyan 47). Globestar Telecom, Aluva 184 in 30 overs (Rajilal 106, Rajesh four for 32) bt Royal, Puthuparamba 83 in 18.2 overs (Achuthan five for 17).
