Accused in the case produced in court Chagala may be subjected to narco test BHUBANESWAR: The city police on Thursday began ‘intensive’ interrogation of Chagala, who claimed to be a member of the team that killed Biranchi Das, former coach of child marathoner Buddhia Singh. A four-member police team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Suresh Mohapatra, brought Chagala, who had surrendered in Bhopal on Tuesday on a transit remand. Chagala is one of the closest aides of gangster Raja Acharya, the prime suspect in Biranchi Das murder case. Chagala along with Tukuna Sahoo, who was picked up from Cuttack earlier, were produced before a local court here on Thursday. Police secured seven days remand for their further interrogation in the case. Commissioner of Police Binay Behera and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sarat Sahu began the interrogation of Chagala, who had made sensational statement by accusing a senior IAS officer for conspiring the murder. Police sources, however, said there was no coherence between statements made by Chagala at Bhopal and now here. “We have got certain leads pertaining to the murder, we cannot divulge those at the point of time,” Commissioner of Police said. Given the gravity of the crime and growing public pressure, the police was also contemplating to put Chagala under narco test. Scrap smuggling caseMeanwhile, investigation into multi-crore scrap smuggling case, which was being thought as another strong reason behind the murder, was stepped up by various agencies. While the Railway Protection Force was carrying out its own investigation in wake of allegations about involvement of certain railway officials, crime branch was laying emphasis on police-criminal nexus in its investigation.
