Speeches send crowds into raptures Launches scathing attack on YSR
Wooing voters: TDP Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Harikrishna wields a wooden plough presented to him by a party worker at a public meeting at Poranki near Vijayawada on Thursday .
VUYYURU (Krishna district): Rajya Sabha member and TDP leader Nandamuri Harikrishna’s whirlwind visit to several places around Kankipadu, Vuyyuru and Pamarru in Krishna district on Thursday received a good response from the TDP’s rank and file, even as the late NTR’s son used his visit to call upon people to wipe out what he described as the “corrupt and unjust” Congress rule from the State. Besides unveiling statues of NTR at various places during his tour, Mr. Harikrishna stood atop a decorated van to flash victory sign to the people en route and made speeches at select places with theatrical and appealing gestures. Addressing an impressive gathering after unveiling NTR’s statue at Poranki near Kankipadu, Mr. Harikrishna said, “We’ve made a big mistake. The important thing now is that we should not repeat that mistake. It should be corrected by driving the corrupt Congress out of this State and bring back Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s development-oriented rule.” The action-packed speeches of Mr. Harikrishna had the crowds break into thunderous applause and boisterous signs of approval, with his carefully chosen pungent words against the Congress drawing even more a noisy approval from the audience. Phrases like “Dushta paalana” (unjust rule) and “panchalo vachchi mosam chestadu” (“he comes in a farmer’s dress to deceive you”, alluding to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy) were repeatedly used by the TDP leader in a bid to drive the message straight to the crowds. Mr. Harikrishna’s attack on the Congress Government for the alleged killing of TDP MLA Paritala Ravi had youths raising high-pitched slogans like “Paritala Ravi amar rahe…” and “Telugu Desam jindabad”. Referring to the Ayesha Meera murder, the TDP leader accused the Government of remaining “a silent spectator to murders being perpetrated on many innocent girls and women in the State.” Charges refutedMr. Harikrishna refuted the charge being made by the Congress leaders about the neglect of farmers by the erstwhile Chandrababu Naidu Government. He said despite lack of good rains, Mr. Naidu had taken all necessary measures to improve the lot of the farming community. “This man who comes in a farmer’s attire has done nothing to fulfil his promises in the past four years. There are no remunerative prices. Now he is coming out with new promises yet again. It is only to deceive us again. How can we be cheated again and again?,” he thundered. TDP urban president Gadde Rammohan, district president Ambati Brahmanaiah, district general secretary Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Chalasani Pandu and others were leaders were present.
