15 workers injured by a swarm of poisonous bees
Staff Reporter
KARUR: Around 15 labourers engaged in road laying work near Chettipalayam regulator in Karur district suffered stinging bites when a swarm of poisonous bees attacked them on Thursday afternoon.
Sources said that the labourers were laying earthen road under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme near the regulator when they came under attack from poisonous bugs.
They scampered to safety immediately but the bees won’t let go of them and chased and pinned their stings on their person.
Some workers reportedly swooned at the site itself and all were later rushed to a private hospital in Karur where they were treated for injuries suffered. Thanthoni Panchayat Union Chairman K. Subramanian and Appipalayam panchayat president Lakshmi Vetriselvan visited them in the hospital and assured that the Union would bear their medical expenses.
Later Fire and Rescue Personnel rushed to the spot and destroyed the swarm of bees by setting fire to their habitat.
