Rs.42-crore loans for SHGs in Nagapattinam

State Government has fixed a target of Rs.1,600 crore for loan assistance

Amounts ranging from Rs.50,000 to Rs.1.50 lakh to be lent depending on project feasibility


NAGAPATTINAM: The banks will provide Rs.42 crore loan to women self-help groups (SHGs) in Nagapattinam district during the current year for starting viable income-generating economic activities, said Tenkasi S. Jawahar, Collector, here on Thursday.

Presiding over the standing committee meeting of the lead bank of the district, the Indian Overseas Bank, the Collector said that out of the total loan target of Rs.42 crore, the nationalised banks would provide the lion’s share of Rs.21.75 crore and the balance by the private sector and co-operative banks.

The Collector said that the State Government had fixed a target of Rs.1,600 crore loan assistance to the SHGs by the banks during the current year and a revolving fund of Rs.150 crore.

He pointed out that the SHGs would get a loan of Rs.30 crore through Mahalir Thittam schemes, Rs. Five crore from Swarnajayanthi Gram Swarojgar Yojana, Rs. Five crore for the tsunami blocks and Rs. Two crore under continuing education programme.

Mr. Jawahar pointed out that the banks would provide loans ranging from Rs.50,000 to Rs.1.50 lakh to the SHGs depending on the feasibility of their economic activity.

K. Arunmani, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, R. Kasinathan, Assistant General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, K. Venugopal, Assistant General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, A. Thanickachalam, Lead District Manager, managers of various banks and representatives from SHGs attended the meeting.
