VALPARAI: A female leopard, which was said to have mauled a five-year-old girl a fortnight ago, was trapped by Forest Department personnel from the Anali estate, 15 km from here, on Thursday.

This is the fourth leopard to be trapped in the Valparai plateau in less than four months. Another female leopard was trapped from the estate a week ago.

Like the previous one, this three-year-old female leopard will be transported on Friday to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur, near Chennai, after being tranquillised, K.R. Varadharajan, Wildlife Warden, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, said.

In the last 10 years the authorities have trapped 10 leopards in the plateau.

The residents of Valparai, mostly workers of the tea, coffee and cardamom estates, were gripped by fear following attacks by leopards.
