Tamil Nadu Special Police, Tuticorin Port to meet in last eight

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Special Police and Tuticorin Port came through with contrasting wins on Thursday and will now face each other in the quarterfinals of the Champion club football tournament being held here.

While TNSP routed Sun SC, Dindigul 8-1 after leading 4-1 at the half way stage, Tuticorin Port took the tie-breaker route to edge out Balu MFC, Tiruchi 4-1 after the two teams were goalless at regulation time.

Bharath Kingsly’s 22nd minute goal opened the account for the Police. Kingsly went on to score in the 46th and 49th minutes as well. Before that Kanagaraj slotted in twice in the 35th and 39th minutes. All the goals had come off set piece situations. In this midst all that Sun could show was a lovely right-footed goal by G. Sathish in the 40th minute.

Harinarayanan (53rd) joined in the fun in the second session and with a minute to go for the whistle, Jegan converted a penalty after Kingsly was brought down in the box by Raghu Ramkumar.

In the other match, after the match had gone goalless during regulation time, Briston, Pravin, Joy and Dinesh converted for Port whereas only S. Ramesh could succeed for the Tiruchi side. G. Nandakumar and S. Deva failed.

CSSF triumphs

An unbeaten 80 by B. Aparajith was the highlight of CSSF’s comfortable win over TE-IPL in the under-16 final of the IOB-Lions Club Trophy tournament, organised by the TE-IPL CA here.

Former India cricketer, B. Arun, gave away the prizes.

The scores: CSSF 201 for four in 20 overs (B. Aparajith 80 not out, Indrajith 56, Anurag two for 40) bt TE-IPL CA 81 in 16.3 overs (Kunal Madan 42, Indrajith four for 15, Sharukh Khan three for six).

Special prizes: Man of the series: Abhishek Nehra (TE-IPL CA); Best batsman: Aparajith (CSSF); Best bowler: Ganapath Sethia (Prahlad); Best all-rounder: Indrajith (CSSF); Most promising cricketer: Kunal Madan (TE-IPL CA).

Thrilling win for Asiatic

Asiatic CA managed a narrow two-run win over Reddy CA in a match in the Reddy’s league cum knock-out Under-10 cricket tournament.

The scores: Asiatic CA 121 for six in 20 overs (K.S. Rohit 30, R. Rahul 36 bt Reddy CA 119 for six in 20 overs (K. Varun 33, Syed Irfan 30).

Reddy CA 123 for five in 20 overs (V. Balajee 43, G. Magesh 20) bt Ebenezer Marcus CA 103 for nine in 20 overs (Rakesh 20, S. Yogesh Kumar three for 16).

Ebenezer Marcus CA 142 for three in 20 overs (Rakesh 21, S. Kasi 46, C.S.Rohit 42) bt Asiatic CA 138 for five in 20 overs (K.S. Rohit 53 not out, L. Vignesh 30 not out, A.M. Abhinash three for 26).

Easy for AJCA

Abdul Jabbar CA (AJCA) registered a 42-run win in the Kedar’s Pearls under-11 cricket tournament on Thursday.

The scores: Abdul Jabbar CA 126 for four in 25 overs (Rohit Venkatesh 42 n.o.) bt BBCA 84 in 22.5 overs.

J.S. Rao CA 81 for eight in 25 overs lost to FSCA 82 for two in 14.2 overs (S. Aravintha 30 n.o.).

Dicky Super Trophy

The Chennai St. Bede’s Sports Foundation will conduct its Dicky Super Trophy inter-camp invitation limited overs cricket in the under-16 section from April 28 to May 3 and the Dicky Memorial Trophy tourney for under-13 category from May 12 to 16 at the St. Bede’s ground.

The u-13 tourney is in its 10th edition and will have 12 teams taking part, including one Combined Districts team. The top team from four groups will progress to the semifinals.

The Dicky Super Trophy will also be organised along the same lines except that the teams will be district outfits and the semifinal and final will be of 50 overs each. Six district teams are in the fray.

The tournaments are co-sponsored by M/s. India Cements, Sumeru Soft, Gautham’s Offset, & IOB.
