No surprise then, the ongoing camp at the Anna Stadium here has attracted good number of youngsters. Good response“This year, as usual, the response is good. Swimming, apart from helping the participants to chill out, is also a good exercise that helps them to stay fit,” says Regional Senior Manager, Tiruchi-unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), N. Sundaram. With most of them being beginners, they are taught the basics and freestyle. But there are some who wish to learn other styles. “There are some youngsters, who show great interest in taking up competitive swimming,” says SDAT swimming coach B. Sathish Kumar. According to Mr. Sundaram, the coach would identify talented youngsters and special training would be provided to them even after the camp. “It is important to encourage those with genuine interest. The move is a step in that direction.” Next batchThe batch in progress concludes on April 29 and the next begins from May 1 and will go till May 14. “The strength of the current batch is more than 70. The registrations for the next batch have already crossed 40. After all, who doesn’t like a splash at the pool in this sweltering heat,” Mr. Sundaram adds.
