YSR told to clarify stand on Telangana
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has asked Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to clarify whether he was a ‘separatist’ or an ‘integrationist’.
At a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Rao termed the Chief Minister’s words of Thursday as ‘self-contradictory’. Dr. Reddy had spoken of how the Congress party had been in the forefront in pursuit of a separate Telangana State and how he had even gone to New Delhi, met the President and the party high command seeking formation of a separate State.
He said, “Earlier, the Chief Minister had given the impression that he was an integrationist and spoke in favour of integrated development of Andhra as a State.
Let him clarify on his self-contradictory statement. “If Dr. Reddy was really an integrationist, let him accept the challenge of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao and pave the way for introducing the bill in Parliament,” he said. While appreciating Dr. Reddy’s initiatives in introducing Arogyasri, the health scheme and the Rs. 2 a kilo rice scheme, the BJP leader said it was not enough, as it would have to counter the Telangana sentiment and the price rise.
