Water users’ fora get assistance

32 associations receive subsidy
|
TIRUNELVELI: Water management subsidy to Water Users’ Associations and other assistance to farmers were disbursed during the farmers’ grievance day meeting here on Friday. District Revenue Officer G. Srinivasan handed over the assistance in the presence of Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Tirunelveli, J. Suresh.
During the financial year of 2007-08, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Tirunelveli, implemented Command Area Development and Water Management Programme in four commands — Manimuthar Irrigation System, Pachaiyar River Basin, Nambiyar River Basin and Gadana and Ramanadhi Projects. Mr. Srinivasan disbursed the water management subsidy of Rs. 67.18 lakh to 32 water users’ associations. Along with this amount, farmers’ contribution of Rs. 7.50 lakh was also deposited in a nationalised bank in the names of the Superintending Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department and the president of Water Users’ Associations concerned.
The fixed deposit receipt will be kept under the custody of Superintending Engineer. The interest accruing from the deposit will be utilised by Water Users’ Associations to execute farm development works and for administrative expenditure.
