State to take up plantation programme

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Friday decided to take up plantation in one-lakh hectares of land during 2008-09.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting where Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed various plantation programmes. It was decided that 4.3 crore saplings will be arranged for the plantation programme and the saplings will be grown by involving various self-help groups and forest protection committees.

The plantation drive will be undertaken through the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
