Karunakaran nominated to CWC
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran was on Friday nominated to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) as permanent invitee, a post he held before leaving the party on May 1, 2005. His return to the CWC, announced at the party’s routine briefing here, was a matter of speculation ever since he returned to the Congress fold this year. As to what message the Congress was sending across to the party’s faction-prone State unit, spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said, “it shows that the past is forgotten and we all stand united.”
While Mr. Karunakaran’s return to the CWC has settled the question about his rehabilitation in the party’s organisational structure, an issue that remains to be resolved is the fate of some of his loyalists. The Karunakaran group has been pressing for four general secretary posts in the KPCC.
