Rich haul: B. Prasad Rao, Commissioner of Police, with members of the rowdy gang busted on and the seized firearms at a press conference in Hyderabad. — HYDERABAD: A gangster Ahmed Bin Salam and his seven associates were arrested by the city police on Friday. Two double barrel breach loading (DBBL) guns, a single barrel breach loading (SBBL) gun, .32 revolvers and four swords were seized from the gang members’ possession. Salam was arrested at Banjara Hills. The gang consisting of 15 members used to settle land disputes by threatening people with firearms and swords. Its leader Salam alias Chaoosh, 48, a real-estate businessman, had been committing offences since 1990. He was also involved in three murder cases and an attempt to murder case. Murder attemptSalam had planned to eliminate his rival gangster Ayub Khan in 2005, but the police foiled the attempt. “Crackdown on the gangsters will continue and efforts are also on to nab Ayub Khan,” City Police Commissioner B. Prasada Rao said at a press conference. The other arrested persons included Syed Sameer-ul-Hasan of Masab Tank, Shaik Adil and Hussain Bin Sadullah, both from Moghalpura, Abdul Hameed of Mehdipatnam, Syed Mujeebuddin of Ahmednagar, Mohammed Abdul Jaleel and Shail Zahed, both from Falaknuma. Police inquiries revealed that Salam’s gun licence was cancelled after he fired shots at Madina Hotel owner Babu Jabri in 1996 in connection with a land dispute. In 2002, he obtained a gun licence from Ranga Reddy district Collector by submitting duplicate documents. He also facilitated his associate Sameer Khan in obtaining a similar licence and purchased .32 revolvers, two DBBL guns and a SBBL gun. The police also arrested three persons on charges of committing a series of offences. Over 202 mobile phones, 12 knives, iron rods, baseball bats and hockey sticks were recovered from the possession of Md. Ismail Biyabani and Md. Naseer, both residents of Shakkargunj and Md. Nizamuddin of Sultan Shahi. Apart from settling land disputes, the accused used to steal mobile phones and sell them at Jagdish Market in Abids.
